Using Windows settings 

Open Settings -> Update & Security -> windows update -> Under “Update settings,” click the Advanced options link. Under “Choose when updates are installed,” select the readiness level that you want to delay the update:

  • Semi-Annual Channel (Targeted): Defers feature updates up to 365 days since the original release of version 1803.
  • Semi-Annual Channel: Defers feature updates up to 365 days since the update is considered stable for organizations. Usually, this happens four months after a new version becomes available in the Semi-Annual Channel (Targeted) branch.



To delay the update for longer than four months, click the drop-down menu under feature update includes new capabilities and improvements’. In this drop-down menu select the number of additional days you would like to defer the update for, up to a maximum of 365. And that’s it. Your device will not receive the April 2018 Update until the time you’ve specified, or until you revert the settings.

Using Group policy 

Press Windows + R, type gpedit.msc And Ok to open group policy editor, Then Navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update > Defer Windows Updates. Here Double-click on “Select when Feature Updates are received” Set the policy enabled to activates the options that are provided

You have two options to postpone the update:

  • Defer the Feature update for up to 365 days.
  • Pause Feature updates for up to 35 days.

Block Windows 10 April 2018 Update installation

Windows 10 Home is a more restricted version of the OS when it comes to updates. There is no any options in the Settings app to defer the April 2018 Update. But you can turn on metered connection to temporarily block the update.

Open your computer’s settings by pressing Windows + I. Here, click on “Network & Internet”. Select Ethernet / WiFi connection.

You can completely Disable Windows Updates Download and installation by Disable the Windows services. To do this press Win + R, Type services.msc and ok to open windows services. Now scroll download and look for Windows update service. Double click on it change the startup type Disable and stop the service next to service status as shown below image.
