Microsoft Edge Crashes or Not Working after Windows 10 1909 update !!!

Did you Recently notice the Microsoft Edge browser not working or crashes after Windows 10 November 2019 Update? You are not alone a number of users report Microsoft edge closes immediately after opening for some other Microsoft edge crashes on launch or the edge browser not loading pages.

When we look For the Reason behind the Edge Browser Crashes problem After fiddling with the Edge files and other settings, it turns out that the main cause of this problem is the corrupt Microsoft Edge folder. What’s happening is that over time, the Edge browser is collecting a lot of data during your web browsing sessions in order to make the web browsing fast. But, unlike others, it is not good enough right now to handle all that information. This is the main cause behind the Edge Browser crash. Again system file corruption or user profile corruption also causes the browser to slow down or not responding.

Microsoft regularly release security updates with improvements and various bug fixes. before apply any solutions we recommend check and install Windows updates, that may have solutions for the bug causing edge browser unresponsive.

  • Open settings app using keyboard shortcut Windows + I,
  • Click on Update & security than Windows update,
  • Here hit check for updates button to allow windows updates download and install from Microsoft server.
  • And restart your PC to apply them

Clean Boot Your Windows 10

If this is the first time that you had a problem with Edge browser, one of the first things you should do is to restart your PC. What’s more, you should do a clean boot. It allows you to run your PC with only a minimal set of drivers and programs.

To perform clean boot 

  • On your keyboard, press Windows logo + R at the same time,
  • Then type msconfig and press Enter.
  • This will open the system configuration window.
  • Go to Services tab, check the box for Hide all Microsoft services.
  • And click Disable all button.

  • Then go to Startup tab and choose Open Task Manager.
  • Select each item on the list and choose Disable.
  • Now close your Task Manager and restart your computer.

See if the same problem occurs with clean boot mode. If Edge still opens and closes unexpectedly in a few seconds, then you can move on the Next steps.

Clear the browser cache

Piled up cache and browsing history can also cause your Edge browser (and any other browser) to run slow. If Microsoft Edge opens but stops working, you can Clear browsing history and cache data to fix the problem.

  • Run Microsoft Edge. Click the three dots button in the upper right corner.
  • Click History then click Clear History.

Next Select all boxes and click Clear.

Run the Troubleshooter

Run the build-in Windows store app troubleshooter that automatically detects and fix problems with the Microsoft Edge browser.

  • Open Settings app using the keyboard shortcut Windows + I,
  • Click on Update & security then troubleshoot on the left pane,
  • Now scroll down and locate Windows store
  • Select Windows Store apps then click run the troubleshooter,
  • This will start to diagnose and fix problems causing edge browser working normally.
  • Once the diagnose process completes Restart your PC and check if edge browser working normally.

Reset Microsoft Edge to Default

If you can’t open Microsoft Edge after an update, or Microsoft edge closes after opening it’s probably the application files are corrupted that prevent edge browser running. Reset the browser to its default state probably help to fix the problem.

  • Press Windows + X keyboard shortcut and select settings,
  • Next click on apps than apps and features,
  • Scroll down and locate Microsoft Edge, click on it,
  • Next click on Advanced options link,

Here you will get the option to repair or reset the browser,

Note: Repairing the app won’t affect anything, but Reset will remove all your data from the browser. Think before you click Reset.

  • First click on the repair button, after that open edge browser and check if this working normally.
  • If Repair doesn’t help, repeat the steps above and click Reset.

Repair Corrupted System Files

Also, Corrupted system files can cause different errors on windows computers and may this edge not responding is caused due to system file corruption. We recommend Repair windows system files by fallowing bellow.

Search for cmd Right click on Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator. Now run the following command lines one by one hit enter key to execute the command.

  • DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth
  • SFC/scannow

Note: the scanning process will take some time to complete the scan and repair process, wait until 100% complete the process.

Reinstall Edge Browser

Still, the problem not resolved, edge browser not responding or Microsoft edge closes after a few seconds Here the effective solution work for most of Windows 10 users.

  • Search for PowerShell,
  • Righ click on PowerShell and select Run as administrator,
  • When the PowerShell prompt opens type bellow command and hit the enter key to execute the same.

“Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers -Name Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml” -Verbose}

Once the command executed, restart your PC and check if there is no more problem with edge browser.

Create a New User Account

Creating a new user account will generate a new edge browser profile and with new profile edge will run smoother.  

  • To Create a user account on windows 10 simply open command prompt as administrator.
  • Next type below command and hit enter key to create a new user account.

net user % usre name % %password% /add

Note: %user name % change your new create username.
%password %: Type password for your new created user account.
Ex : net user admin p@ss /add

you will get an out message the command completed successfully. That means user account created successfully. Now Logoff From Current user Account and log in with New created User account. Open the Edge Browser check working normally without any problem crashes, not responding etc.

Tweak Registry Setting permissions

The user suggested method: one of our readers suggested this method

Press Windows + R type regedit and hit the enter key.

This will open Windows registry editor

Backup registry database then navigate to the following path.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\LocalSettings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppContainer\Storage\microsoft.microsoftedge_8wekyb3d8bbwe

  • Here right click folder Named”microsoft.microsoftedge_8wekyb3d8bbwe” at the left panel, and click Permission.
  • Select the third Unknown account (S-1-15-3-3624051433 ….).
  • You will see only Read permission is selected. Let’s check “All permission”.
  • Click OK and close the window.
  • Now restart windows to take save changes and check edge browser working fine.

    Hi Srikant, Trying to fix my Microsoft Edge that crashes since Windows 10 update. Have uninstalled but when I try and reinstall in safe mode with the command you say I get the message “Get-AppXPackage : This service cannot be started in safe mode”
    Any suggestions?

      Dear first Make sure you open Power shell As administrator. Then type the command Get-AppXPackage -AllUsers -Name Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge | Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$($_.InstallLocation)\AppXManifest.xml” -Verbose}

      Still Having issue Then, Start windows normally and again try the same command on powershell ( admin ).
