Have you noticed, that the mouse pointer or touchpad cursor on Laptop disappeared after the windows 10 21H2 Update? Or Mouse pointer disappears browsing with the internet browser chrome? Again sometimes you might notice the mouse cursor disappeared on laptop while it up from sleep mode. There are a couple of things that might cause the Mouse pointer disappears windows 10, could be the driver might be outdated, or your mouse device got disabled for some reason. Here we have listed a few solutions that help get the mouse pointer back in Windows 10.

Mouse pointer disappears windows 10

If the problem started after install windows update or install feature upgrade there may bug disabled the function of your mouse pointer.

If you have a physical mouse connected, try to disconnect and reconnect it again to a different USB port,

If this is the very first time you notice this problem then restart your PC that clears a temporary glitch that might prevent the mouse pointer function properly and fix the problem for you.

Press the F5 on the keyboard that is generally used to disable or enable the mouse cursor. If you are laptop user, press Fn + F3,  or Fn + F9, or  Fn + F11.  (Here the keys might be different depending on the keyboard/brand)

Enable mouse

  • Press Windows key + R, type main.cpl and hit the enter key,
  • This will open the mouse properties window,
  • Use the tab key on the keyboard until the buttons tab is highlighted with dotted lines, then switch to device settings using the right arrow key on the keyboard.
  • Here check if your device is enabled or disabled.
  • If it’s disabled, press the tab key on your keyboard until the Enable button is highlighted with a dotted border then press the enter key to enable your mouse pointer.
  • Again highlight apply and ok using the tab key on the keyboard and enter key to apply the changes.

Uncheck Hide Pointer While Typing

  • Press Windows key + R, type main.cpl and hit the enter key,
  • This will open the mouse properties window,
  • Use the tab key on the keyboard until the buttons tab is highlighted with dotted lines,
  • Now Pointer Options using the right arrow key,
  • Next highlight the “Hide pointer while typing” option using tab key on the keyboard, and then press Spacebar to uncheck this particular option.

Check if the driver causing the issue

  • Press Windows Key + R then type devmgmt.msc and press enter key,
  • This will open the device manager and display all installed device driver list,
  • Press Tab to highlight your computer name inside Device Manager,
  • Now use the down arrow key to highlight Mice and other pointing devices,
  • Again use the right and down arrow key to select the pointer device listed and hit Enter to open its Properties.

Now highlight the General tab using tab key, use the down arrow to select the update driver button then hit the enter key. select Search automatically for the drivers option (using the tab key on the keyboard) and follow on-screen instructions to download and update the latest driver version from the Microsoft server.

Rollback mouse driver

If the problem started after a recent update, then you can use the rollback driver option to revert back the mouse driver to the previous version which probably helps fix the problem.

  • Again open device manager using devmgmt.msc and open the mouse properties,
  • If you have recently updated the mouse driver you will get the rollback driver option (refer to image below), locate it using tab key on the keyboard and press the enter key.
  • Follow on-screen instructions to revert back the driver to the previous version and restart your PC to apply the changes.

In addition: 

  • If you are using a wireless mouse, check and make sure there is no issue with the mouse battery,
  • Boot in clean boot state and check if the mouse pointer appears,
  • Run an antivirus scan to check and make sure the virus/malware infection not causing the issue.

The mouse pointer disappears on chrome

If you notice the cursor not showing on chrome or the mouse cursor disappears only when you are browsing on chrome Then

  • Close and reopen the chrome browser,
  • clear browser cache and cookies
  • make sure the chrome browser is updated with the latest version or reinstall the browser.
