Solved: Error 0X800CCC0E Outlook cannot connect to server (Gmail)

Getting difficulty to send receive emails, MS Outlook, Outlook Express or similar email client results Error 0x800CCC0E while performing the email communication? The error 0x800CCC0e usually occurs due to no internet connection, the conflict between SMTP servers while using an email program or when users try to send emails during account configuration, or due to change in the port number. A firewall can also cause a problem in this regard. A number of users report this issue:




Outlook 2016 stopped being able to connect to my SMTP account. It can still send via IMAP but not connect to my SMTP folders. Outlook 2016 gives me an error 0x800CCC0E. 

The connection to the server has failed. Account: ‘your_account’, Server :’your_SMTP_server’, Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure (SSL): NO, Socket error: 10061, Error Number: 0x800ccc0e

Make sure that you are connected to the Internet

It might be possible due to bad network/ No Internet connection might show Outlook error 0x800CCC0E cannot connect to Server.

  1. Start an Internet browser. For example, start google chrome.
  2. Type one of the following addresses in the address bar, and then press Enter.
    • http://www.microsoft.com
    • http://www.google.com



Disable your antivirus/firewall temporarily

If your antivirus software includes an email-scanning feature, you may have to perform additional configuration tasks to use Outlook or Outlook Express together with the antivirus software. Visit antivirus manufacturer website and check how to use Outlook together with your antivirus software. Or temporarily disable the antivirus software to check and make sure security software not blocking incoming/outgoing connections.

Check the settings for the Email Account in Outlook

Sometimes this occurs because of incorrect Incoming, Outgoing, Username, and Password account settings. So, Check and make sure all the account settings must be correct.

While checking the account settings, make sure that the username has the entire email address in it. The procedure to configure settings may differ in different versions of MS Outlook. So you can refer to Microsoft sites for details.

Check SMTP server settings

The IMAP error 0x800ccc0e can happen due to SMTP server settings and email configuration settings. There are 2 methods to modify the SMTP settings.

Open your outlook account and go to Tool menu. If you are using office 2013/16 then Go to File>Account Settings>Account Settings.

Under Email tab, select your email account and double-click on it.

In the new dialogue box, select More Settings option.

Here on Internet E-mail settings window, Move to Outgoing Server tab, select the checkbox ‘My outgoing server(SMTP) requires authentication. And make sure Use same settings as my incoming mail server radio button selected.

After configuring outgoing server move to advanced tab and  change outlook server port number to 587

Click on OK button to apply the settings, and allow on-screen instructions to finish the configuration process. And check email server started working.
