Added new PC migration experience on Windows Backup, as well as the default app changes related to the European Economic Area (EEA) region. It also includes various fixes and performance improvements to address known issues and enhance system stability. Here’s everything you need to know about Windows 11 KB5060826 (Version 23H2/22H2), including how to install it.
What is new in KB5060826 Update?
The KB5060826 update is a cumulative preview update for Windows 11 versions 23H2 and 22H2, released on June 26, 2025. This is an optional update that delivers quality improvements and new features for users to test before the next mandatory security update on July 08 2025.
The update introduces changes to default app settings, particularly for users in the European Economic Area (EEA), to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA).
Additional file and link types, such as ftp, read, .mht, .svg, and .xhtml, are now included on the “Default apps” setting page if the browser supports them.
When changing the default browser, it will now automatically pin itself to both the Taskbar and Start menu, though users can opt out of this behavior.
A new PC-to-PC migration experience is being introduced. It allows users to transfer files and settings from an old PC to a new one. This feature is accessible through the Windows Backup app, where users will see a landing and pairing page, giving a first glimpse of what’s coming.
The Windows Share interface now includes a visual preview for sharing links or web content, enhancing the user experience when sharing content.
Administrators can now configure whether a new device receives critical updates during the out-of-box experience (OOBE), providing more control over initial device setup.
The update addresses several issues, including problems with auditing privilege use that created excessive security event logs, authentication issues with domain-joined computers on Windows Server 2025 domain controllers, and improvements in areas such as display kernel functionality, network file sharing, and performance metrics.
It also resolves an issue where kiosk devices might stop responding, and Windows Search responds very slowly.
Microsoft noted a known issue where CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) text may appear blurry at 96 DPI in Chromium-based browsers like Edge and Chrome due to limited pixel density. Increasing display scaling can improve clarity.
