Let’s take a look at what’s New in Microsoft Edge 142.0.3595.53 and how to update your Edge browser latest version.

What’s New in Microsoft Edge 142

Microsoft is rolling out the latest Edge browser update 142 with autofill improvements, scareware blocker, security patches, and other changes.

Configuration update for MIP Enforcement: Starting with Edge 142, Microsoft added a new setup step for enforcing Microsoft Information Protection (MIP) through the Edge management service. This ensures sensitive data remains protected. Existing configurations will continue to work until admins update to the new method.

Scareware Sensor: This release introduced A new AI-powered feature (Scareware Sensor) that detects suspicious full-screen pages in real-time and notifies SmartScreen about potential scams faster than before. It helps enhance security against fake pop-ups and other tech scams.

In organizations where both Scareware blocker and SmartScreen are enabled, users will now have the option to send signals to SmartScreen. The new setting “Share detected scam sites with Microsoft Defender SmartScreen” is available under edge://settings/privacy/security. If enabled, Scareware blocker will report its verdict to Microsoft Defender SmartScreen to enhance protection.

Profile Selection for External Links: When Microsoft Edge is the default browser, it can now open external links in a different profile, with the user able to choose the default profile via a new setting.

Drag to group tabs. Tab groupings can be made by dragging a tab over another. This feature can now be controlled by the “Drag to group tabs” toggle in Microsoft Edge Settings edge://settings/appearance/tabs.

Tab Search: Enhancements to Tab Search allow users to quickly find and reopen recently closed tabs and search across all open tabs in a single view.

Desktop Visual Search: This feature lets you send images to Bing Visual Search directly from the Edge Desktop Search Bar to identify them, extract text, or get more information.

Improved Autofill experience in Microsoft Edge. When users fill in an Address on a form, they will be prompted to choose whether to save it for future Autofill suggestions. This enhancement ensures Autofill data is saved intentionally by users and reduces unwanted entries as part of their Autofill suggestion.

Also, Microsoft Edge 142 fixes 20 Chromium security vulnerabilities and one Edge-specific security vulnerability. You can find details about those patches in the Security Update Guideline here.
