Microsoft released a new KB5035942 (Preview) for Windows 11 versions 23H2 and 22H2. This is an optional update, advance build numbers 23621.3374 and 22621.3374, and enable Moment 5 Features for everyone. The latest release also brings significant lock screen improvements and turns on the Autopilot 2.0 feature, spellcheck and autocorrect features in Notepad, and more. It also makes some changes to Windows Hello for Business and includes several bug fixes and improvements. Microsoft has also published direct download links for Windows 11 KB5035942 offline installers. Well, You can always skip optional updates and wait until the next Patch Tuesday, i.e. “April 2024 Patch Tuesday”, which will include today’s all changes.

Today’s update enables Windows 11 Moment 5 (24H2) Features for everyone that include Windows Copilot capabilities and plugins, enhanced content display on the Windows lock screen, AI-driven features in Clipchamp and Photos apps, smart Snap layout suggestions, new enterprise-focused Windows 365 Boot features, and better voice access functionality.

Moment 5 Features:

  • Widgets have been refined to allow users to disable news content and get notification badges for updates. Microsoft Start can now be disabled in Widgets for a cleaner experience.
  • Windows Copilot receives significant upgrades, including better placement on the taskbar, resizable windows, and multi-monitor support.
  • Voice access is expanded with support for new languages and custom voice shortcuts, alongside multi-monitor compatibility.
  • Narrator is enhanced with natural voice options and improved image description capabilities
  • Windows 11 now offers a repair install option through Windows Update for hassle-free troubleshooting. Screen casting and Snap assist features are refined for better usability and assistance.
  • Lastly, Windows 365 integration is deepened with direct boot to Cloud PC, simplified local and cloud PC distinctions, and enhanced network troubleshooting tools, making the transition between local and cloud environments smoother for users.

In addition, this update also resolves several known issues, including problems with USB audio on certain processors and instances of the Settings app freezing during the removal of Bluetooth devices.

  • For Windows Hello for Business, IT admins can now disable the sign-in prompt for Entra-joined machines using MDM with a new policy setting.
  • Remote Desktop Session Host sees improvements with configurable clipboard redirection policies
  • The taskbar search box now features search highlights in the European Economic Area
  • Daylight saving time adjustments are included for Greenland, Kazakhstan, and Samoa, reflecting the latest global time changes.
  • MSIX applications will now correctly localize UI across all languages post-OS upgrade.

This update resolves various issues affecting COM+ components, app availability post-Windows 11 upgrade, CloudAP deadlocks, network resource access in Remote Desktop sessions, Containers status, time service configuration inconsistencies, visibility of certain Neural Processing Units in Task Manager, touch keyboard and IME candidate window post-Modern Standby, and bitmap loading with LoadImage().

Furthermore, Country and Operator Settings Asset profiles are updated, Notepad printing to IPP printers is fixed, and Windows Defender Application Control stability is improved.

AppLocker rule enforcement, Group Policy service failures, Secure Launch compatibility, Virtual Remote App reliability, Bluetooth connection stability for wireless headphones, TLS 1.3 issues affecting Azure App Services, dsamain.exe responsiveness, and the MSMQ PowerShell module’s loading issues are also addressed, enhancing overall system performance and security.

Previously Microsoft introduced a redesigned weather widget in the Windows 11 lock screen that can be managed from Settings > Personalization > Lock screen and choose “Weather” in the “Lock screen status” setting. And now with today’s release, Microsoft bringing more MSN-powered widgets for Weather, sports, traffic, and finance content to the Windows 11 lock screen.

Notepad gets spellcheck and autocorrect features

Today Microsoft also rolled out an update to Notepad (version 11.2402.18.0) to Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev Channels on Windows 11. This update introduces spellcheck and autocorrect features in Notepad.

Similar to Wordpad, Notepad now highlights misspelled words and provides suggestions so that you can easily identify and correct mistakes. It also includes autocorrect feature which seamlessly fixes common typing mistakes as you type.

To fix a spelling mistake, click, tap, or use the keyboard shortcut Shift + F10 on the misspelled word to see suggested spellings. Microsoft noted on their release note.

Well, you can also choose to ignore words in a single document or add them to the dictionary, so they are not flagged as a mistake again. Spellcheck in Notepad supports multiple languages.
